Community Food Drive
November 3-7, 2025
Inspired by Thank You, Omu! by Oge Mora
This Thanksgiving season, the Hurlbutt PTO invites families to join us in giving back to our community.
In Thank You, Omu!, a kind woman makes a big pot of stew and shares it with her neighbors. At the end of the story, everyone comes together to thank Omu by bringing food to share with her.
Just like Omu’s neighbors, we can each bring something small—and together we’ll make a BIG difference for families in need!
How We’re Sharing the Story
- Each classroom will receive a copy of Thank You, Omu! to read together.
- Teachers will use the story to spark conversations about kindness, gratitude, and community.
How to Participate in the Food Drive
- Send your child with a non-perishable food item to place in the donation area in the LRC.
- Parents can also drop donations during Parent-Teacher Conferences: November 5–7.
- Suggested items: kid-friendly snacks, shelf-stable baking essentials, cooking oil, chocolate chips, sugar, marshmallows, graham crackers, flour, and the like.
Why It Matters
When we give as a community, we show our children that generosity and gratitude can nourish both hearts and homes.
🐝 Together, we can make a difference! 🐝
