FAQs
What is involved in volunteering?
- Volunteers will work for a 1 hour shift every other week from Oct 2025-Jan 2026 (Session 1) or Feb 2026-May 2026 (Session 2). You will be assigned to group A or B, which alternate weeks. We alternate weeks to maximize the number of parents that can volunteer.
Will there be training?
- Yes! Volunteers will be expected to attend an Orientation session scheduled on September 30 or October 1 from 9-10 in the LRC at Hurlbutt.
Can I bring a sibling to my shift?
- Unfortunately, siblings may not accompany volunteers in the LRC during the shifts.
What if too many parents volunteer for a class?
- If more than 2 parent volunteers sign up per class per session, PTO members will have priority assignments followed by a lottery system. We try to accommodate as many volunteers as possible. If you are not selected, we will contact you about other special library volunteer opportunities.
Can I split a shift with another caregiver or my partner?
- We cannot allow 2 or more people to split a single volunteer spot because there is a strong preference for volunteers to have a consistent schedule and to go in every 2 weeks. Only one parent per session will be selected.
